Library services

Visit your library

Your library is one library in three locations, Bairnsdale, Forestec, and Sale-Fulham.

On campus you can access databases and the internet through PCs, or via the wireless network using your laptop or one loaned through the library. Photocopying, scanning, and printing is encouraged, as is the use of binding equipment, comfortable couches, newspapers and magazines, and group and individual study areas.

Your library is staffed by friendly, approachable and knowledgeable staff, who will field any question from directional to complex research enquiries.

Locations and hours

Online Library services uses Facebook, twitter and blogger to keep you in the loop about new resources, service changes, observations from the library and anything else you might find of interest.

Using the library catalogue

The catalogue is a database that contains records of every book, DVD, journal etc that is held in the library collection. If you are unfamiliar with using the catalogue you can visit or contact your library for assistance.

Borrowing and returns

Your library offers flexible borrowing conditions for on and off campus students. Ask us how.

Any resource borrowed from your library can be returned to any of the campus libraries, or if you live in the vicinity of Sale, the Flexible Learning Centre at the corner of Cunninghame and Desailly St.

Reservations

You can reserve books, DVDs, journals etc through any computer or mobile device that has an internet connection. All you need is your Library borrower number and PIN. If you don’t know your borrower number or PIN contact your library and we’ll create one for you. If the resource you need is at another campus we’ll send it to the campus library of your choice.

Document delivery

Found an article from an electronic journal through our databases? It doesn’t have full-text? Fear not, we can source a hardcopy, or a photocopy of the article you need through Inter-library loan. Document delivery allows us to supply materials, not held in the EGTAFE collection, from other libraries at no cost to you. Ask us how.

Reference services

Your library will advise you on the best way to search for the information you need for your assignment and assessments. Visit us in person, online, via Skype or telephone. EGTAFE library will soon implement a reference service using Skype, through which we’ll be able to screen share, message in real time and conduct face-to-face reference enquiries via webcam.

Referencing your work

A citation is the basic information about a book or journal article, with enough information for someone to find it. Citations are more commonly referred to as references, and should appear both in the body (in-text) and as a list at the end of your essay or assignment.

Advance TAFE uses the American Psychological Association (APA) system of referencing. APA referencing is an author/date style, that is used to reference a broad range of resources from books to podcasts.

For example, a book citation would contain the author or editor, title, edition (if applicable) place and date of publication, and publisher

Mortimer, M. (2006). Library Speak: A glossary of terms in librarianship and information management (6th ed.). Canberra: DocMatrix.

Citing your work is important in an academic setting, it helps to avoid plagiarism, allows your teacher to check the sources of information contained in your essay or assignment, and indicates that you have read widely.

Find your guide to APA referencing here.
